From initial Brief to the Finish Line:
Our First-Year Apprentices build a Go-Kart
Our first-year apprentices recently completed their biggest challenge yet, designing, machining, and assembling a fully functional go-kart.
This end-of-year project pushed them to put all their new skills into practice, with strict engineering requirements to meet:
- Must safely hold a driver weighing up to 100kg
- Built with at least 75% Cast Nylon
- Total weight under 200kg
- Able to stop within 5m when travelling at 10mph
- Capable of completing a full turn within a 6m circle
From interpreting technical drawings and selecting the right materials, to precision machining and problem-solving, the team had to combine theory with hands-on expertise to bring their designs to life.
The results speak for themselves, a working go-kart that showcases not just their technical ability, but also their creativity, perseverance, and teamwork.
A huge well done to all our apprentices for crossing the finish line in style. And a big thank you to our dedicated training team and mentors for guiding them every step of the way.
