This month, Nylacast proudly welcomed students for our first Introneering Week of the year, and what an energising start it’s been. The enthusiasm, curiosity, and creativity shown by the young people who joined us set a brilliant tone for the months ahead.
What Is Introneering Week?
The name “Introneering” reflects its purpose, an introduction to engineering that is hands on, engaging, and rooted in real world experience.
Introneering Week is Nylacast’s long running community initiative designed to introduce young people to the world of engineering. Launched in 2015, what began as a small effort to give back to our local community has grown into an established 11 year programme that has supported countless students in exploring STEM pathways.
When the programme first began, it was specifically aimed at 15 year olds in the summer between their GCSE years (Year 10 to Year 11). The goal was to help students understand what an engineering apprenticeship involved and to promote apprenticeships more widely within schools. A key part of those early sessions was emphasising the importance of achieving strong GCSEs in Maths and English, and how these subjects underpin future career opportunities in engineering and beyond.
Over the years, the programme has continued to evolve, expanding its reach and adapting to the needs of both students and schools, but the core purpose remains the same: to inspire, inform, and open doors.
Our Purpose and Commitment
The engineering sector continues to face a significant skills gap, and we believe industry has a responsibility to help bridge it. By opening our doors to young people, we aim to:
For us, it’s about more than education, it’s about investing in the future of our industry and our community.
What Students Experience During the Week
During ‘Introneering’ Week, students take part in a structured programme that blends learning, exploration, and hands‑on activity. Sessions typically include:
The goal is to give students a genuine feel for what engineering looks like day‑to‑day, and to show them that there is space for every kind of thinker, maker, and innovator in this field.
A strong start to 2026
This year’s first cohort brought incredible energy, and their engagement reminded us why this programme matters. Seeing young people discover new interests, ask thoughtful questions, and imagine themselves in engineering roles is exactly why ‘Introneering’ Week continues to grow.
Looking to get involved in future sessions?
We’re always looking to partner with schools in Leicester and the surrounding area. If you’re a teacher, careers lead, or STEM coordinator interested in future Introneering Weeks, we’d love to hear from you!
