Nylacast - Corporate

Nylacast Limited was formed in 1967 by Mike Fraser, a Leicester based engineer with significant experience in the plastics industry. Mike saw the opportunity for engineering plastics to penetrate many traditionally metal-based applications. As well as being able to process raw materials into specially developed plastics the business soon developed a reputation for being able to machine those components into products, which could be designed and engineered in collaboration with the customer. From its base in Leicester the company has set-up a manufacturing plant in South Africa and a distribution portal within North America, which sells, manufactured components into the US market.

The ability to produce high volume, high quality engineering polymers in a range of grades and sizes, gives Nylacast a huge advantage over their competitors. The purpose built casting facility, which compliments the already extensive production ability at Nylacast, has the capacity to produce over 2500 tonnes annually using a range of plate, tube and rod casting machines which have been specifically designed by Nylacast. Another advantage is our in-house fabrication facility where specialist tools, to produce custom castings, are designed and manufactured using the latest CAD linked technology.

Nylacast's milling capacity is the envy of their competitors, employing 5 axis machining capability for producing complex parts up to 4 metres in length and 1 metre in width. Over 100 CAD/CAM linked high quality CNC machine tools are processing high and low volumes of small, medium and large components 24 hours a day. The machines are equipped with three dimensional, freely programmable coordinate measuring attachments to ensure quality control at all times. Computer aided tool setting and changing allows close tolerances to be held to the customers drawing. Nylacast recognise the requirement in today’s fast evolving industries to constantly invest in the latest machine tool technology. With this in mind, it has at its disposal a wide range of CNC turning capacity capable of producing parts from 1mm to 2 metres in diameter and up to 4 metres in length. CNC lathes incorporating bar feeding systems, which allow automated production with minimal human intervention, undertake large volume work. Live tooling on certain machines provides an added dimension for components requiring operations that would normally be undertaken by milling machines, eliminating the requirement for multiple holds. Computer aided tool setting and changing allows close tolerances to be held to the customers drawing.
